GENERAL DESCRIPTION

School of Health which was founded in 1996-1997 offers an education at bachelor’s degree. The education period is eight semesters. The Department of Nursing is active at present in the School and the preparations for establishing the Department of Midwife and Health Technician are being carried out.

The School of Health aims at educating nurses who can provide protection and development of the health and valuable care to the patients with professional knowledge and skills in rapidly growing and developing health area.

In practical lessons our students have the opportunity to arrange all nursery enterprises by using modern educational technology and also they practice under the control of lectures in The Research and Training Hospital of the Harran University, Primary Care Health Centers, Mother and Child Health and Family Planning Centers, Dispanseries, Social Services Centers (orphanages, elderly center, community center, Child and Adolescent Centers).Those who are graduated from Nursing Department can work as a nurse in health care areas or an administrative nurse in various health services, and as educators in Nursing Schools. They can also carry out academic activities.

The Department has 1 Assistant Professor, 7 Lecturers, 2 Research Assistants, 4 administrative staffs. Approximately, 30 students have undergraduated from Nursing Department  in a one year.

Departmental Facilities

                   Nursing Department building consists of offices, classrooms, and laboratories. Each member has his/her own office with computers. The department has four classrooms used for undergraduate courses, in addition an application room and a seminar room used for undergraduate courses. Seminar room equipped with a slide projector, two data projectors and two overhead projectors.    

Qualification Awarded

      The department offers education undergraduate programme (Bachelor of Science).

Educational and Professional Goals

      The Nursing Department  believes that professional nursing education begins at baccalaureate level, with the integration of general and professional learning experiences. The ultimate aims of the Department are to enhance human well-being within society through the discipline of nursing and to foster the personal and professional growth of the students. The main goal of the Nursing Department is to be a center of excellence in nursing for the advancement, dissemination and application of nursing knowledge.
        These aims are accomplished through;
1- Providing high-quality educational preparation for professional nursing practice at the undergraduate.

2- Providing leadership in nursing education, research, administration and practice.

0401502 Biostatistics classes are thought by the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine, 

0401505 Basic Informative Technologies classes are given by the staff of Computing Centre.

RESEARCH AND FACILITIES AND LABOROTORIES

The School has Nursing Application Laboratory, Biochemistry and Microbiology Laboratory and Computer Laboratory.

Application Laboratory

In this laboratory there are gynecology and obstetrics model, Human model and Intrauterine Development model.

Biochemistry and Microbiology Laboratory

There are PH meter, microscopes, cell culture media, distil water machine, Ben Marri, Centrifuge and disposables.

Computer Laboratory

There are twenty-five computers.
