With its past dating back for
centuries, Harran University receives its name from the
historical town of Harran which is situated 44 km. southeast of
the city of Şanlıurfa. University of Harran is known to be one
of the first universities of the world and of the most important
centers in history where many world-famous zcholars had studied.
After a period of one thousand year, on
9th July 1992, University of Harran was reestablished, winning
back its glorius place in history.
The University of Harran is in the
center of Şanlıurfa city and its activities are pursued at
three campuses. The Yenişehir Campus with its 48 000 sqm. of
land, encompassing the Presidency building, Faculty of
Engineering, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Art and Science,
Faculty of Veterinary, Faculty of Economical and Administrative
Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Sport Center.
The Eyyubiye Campus with 982 000 sqm.
land, which is at the 5 th km. of the Şanlıurfa-Akçakale road
where the Faculty of Agriculture, Vacational High School,
Centeral Library, Cafeteria, Animal Hospital and the University
lodgings are situated.
And the Main Campus, still in
construction with 27 sqkm of land and at the 18th km. of Şanlıurfa-Viranşehir
road where all the units of the University will be situated in
future.
In addition to these, Vacational High
School for Medical Services, Medicine Faculty, Hospital,
Institues of Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences
are in operation in the city center. Harran University has also
9 Vacational High School in Birecik, Suruc, Viransehir, Bozova,
Hilvan, Siverek, Akçakale, Ceylanpınar and Kahta towns.
A total of 7000 students including 215
Graduate students are pursuing their educational studies in
schools attached to the Harran University.
Academical meetings are held on various
topics (Engineering, Agriculture, Theology and Literature) in
the University.
Among the services provide, two
libraries, Medico-Social Center serving to the students and the
University personnel, students’ canteens and cafeterias,
dormitories for 400 male and 550 female students, 60 lodgings
for University personnel, recreational facilities may be cited.
